National plan to establish the first long-distance pipeline for methanol

On March 2nd, Liu Jishen, general manager of Xinneng Chemical Group, a subsidiary of Hebei Xin'ao Group, disclosed at the “China DME Summit Forum” that the current state is planning to establish two gas pipelines, one of which is from the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The west is from Bohai Bay and the other is from Ordos, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, to Jinzhou Port to solve the problem of long-distance transportation of methanol. This will be China's first planned pipeline dedicated to methanol transportation.
The project has not been officially approved
Founded in 1989, the New Austrian Group is an enterprise group dedicated to the production and application of clean energy. There are 3 listed companies under the Group, including Xinao Gas (2688.HK), which mainly deals with city gas, Enric (3899.HK), which mainly engages in gas equipment and transportation business, and Hebei Weiyuan Biochemical. It is reported that as early as January 8 this year, the New Austrian Group and the Ordos City Development and Reform Commission led the establishment of a long-distance pipeline project from Inner Mongolia to Bohai Bay.
“However, Xinao is just one of the parties involved. Since the local area is one of the seven major coal chemical base points planned by the state, the entire project will be planned by the state and implemented by the local government. Many companies, including the New Austrian Group, will jointly organize the construction.” Liu Jishen said.
Liu Jishen said that the above project is still in the early stage of preparation and has not been officially approved. Xinao Group will actively participate in the above project construction to solve the future problems of ethanol and dimethyl ether transportation.
In addition to participating in the above-mentioned construction of long-distance methanol pipelines, the New Austrian Group has also established two joint ventures for railway shipments. The target also refers directly to the transportation of dimethyl ether and ethanol in the future market.
When asked whether the above-mentioned long-distance transmission pipeline could be completed and put into operation before 2010, Liu Jishen said, “This will be based on the country's unified planning and the local government's unified arrangements. All the preliminary work is underway.”
Winning transport capacity
On February 29, the main contract of crude oil futures on the New York Mercantile Exchange contract reached a record high of US$103.05 per barrel. With the advent of the era of high oil prices, various countries have also set off an upsurge of alternative energy strategies.
Liu Jishen believes that the development of coal-based (clean alcohol ether) fuels will be an important choice based on the characteristics of China's resources (oil shortage, low gas, and rich coal). Considering the five factors of comprehensive resource, technical, economical, environmental protection and safety, coal-based alcohol ether fuels in China can be used as the leading product of comprehensive alternative energy sources.
Among them, dimethyl ether (DME), which is similar to the physical properties of liquefied petroleum gas, has become a main substitute for liquefied petroleum gas, diesel and other oil and gas, and may become one of the major energy sources in the 21st century. Liu Jishen disclosed that the National Development and Reform Commission proposed at the internal meeting of coal chemical industry that by 2020, dimethyl ether will have reached 10 million tons.
"In the future, competition in energy will, to a certain extent, be manifested in the competition in the logistics field. Whoever has the transportation, security, and storage capacity will take the initiative." Deputy General Manager, New Energy Supply Chain Co., Ltd. Guo Xuezhi, general manager of Ao Energy Trading Co., Ltd., added that “based on Ordos methanol production capacity will double in recent years, the main factors restricting the price of methanol are transportation and logistics issues.”
