March 22nd is World Water Day
At Office H2O, we’re thrilled to celebrate World Water Day, observed annually on March 22nd since 1993. The purpose of this day is to underscore the significance of freshwater and bring global attention to the staggering 2.2 billion people who lack access to safe water.
This day serves as a call to action, inspiring individuals worldwide to learn more about water-related challenges and take steps toward making a tangible impact. Each year, the event addresses pressing issues such as water scarcity, contamination, insufficient sanitation, and the growing concerns of climate change.
Today, Office H2O is diving into the themes from past World Water Days, while also highlighting this year’s theme. We hope to motivate you to contribute to meaningful change.
Let’s start with World Water Day 2018, themed “Nature for Water.†This initiative focused on leveraging nature-based solutions to address water challenges in the modern world. Examples included restoring wetlands, using green infrastructure, and reforestation to naturally mitigate floods, droughts, and pollution. Experts argued that these strategies could restore balance to the water cycle, benefiting both humans and ecosystems.
In 2019, the theme shifted to “Leaving No One Behind,†aiming to tackle the water crisis by focusing on marginalized communities. The UN-Water emphasized that equitable access to water is crucial, advocating for inclusive policies that ensure everyone's voice is heard in decision-making.
Fast forward to 2020, where the theme “Water and Climate Change†highlighted the interconnection between water resources and our changing climate. The campaign urged policymakers to prioritize water in climate action plans, underscoring its role in combating climate change through scalable, affordable solutions.
And now, for 2021, the theme is “Valuing Water.†This year, the focus is on recognizing water not only for its practical uses but also for its environmental, social, and cultural significance. WorldWaterDay.org encourages people to share their personal connections to water and engage in discussions about its true worth.
One exciting event happening this year is the "World Water Run," a 7-day challenge starting March 16th, ending on World Water Day. Participants aim to raise awareness about water as a finite resource, with predictions indicating a 40% deficit in usable water supply within the next decade. Join the movement and sign up via WorldWaterDay.org to participate.
Remember, access to clean, safe drinking water isn’t guaranteed for everyone. In fact, the CDC reports that 790 million people globally lack access to improved water sources. Fortunately, here in the U.S., we’re fortunate to have better access compared to many parts of the world. At Office H2O, we’re committed to making clean drinking water accessible through our innovative bottleless water systems.
Our state-of-the-art purification technology ensures your water is safe, employing a 9-step filtration process. Plus, during the pandemic, our touch-free bottleless water coolers offer a hygienic solution with a stylish foot pedal for hands-free access.
