This just happened today at 2386 Blue Island Avenue. There was a roof fire at a commercial building, and it seems the roofers were using torches for some kind of multi-ply roofing work. For a while, there was moderate smoke, but it required quite a bit of roof work to get things under control. The Tactical Leader, or TL 5, mentioned that they had to make about seven or eight vent holes in the roof to manage the situation effectively. Thankfully, the building was equipped with a sprinkler system, which is evident in the photos where the siamese connection was already charged early in the incident. Firefighters also deployed several handlines inside the structure to ensure the fire didn't spread further.
The entire operation was certainly challenging for the firefighters involved, especially given the complexity of the roof work and the need for quick action to prevent any major damage.
