Shed fire in unincorporated Palatine, 3-18-19
This morning (March 18, 2019), firefighters from Lake Zurich responded to a barn fire at 21100 Shirley Road in unincorporated Palatine. Initial reports indicated that there were chickens and horses inside the small barn, and thankfully, most—if not all—appeared to have escaped unharmed. A massive plume of smoke could be seen from miles away, but thanks to quick action by the firefighting teams, water was applied to the flames within minutes. The fire was brought under control in roughly 15 minutes, though the overhaul process took much longer, keeping crews busy for nearly an hour.
In addition to Lake Zurich’s resources, units from neighboring departments were also dispatched to assist. A Wauconda tower ladder, tankers from Long Grove, Barrington Countryside, and the Countryside Fire Protection District, as well as engines from Buffalo Grove, Wheeling, and Fox River Grove were all on the scene. Barrington Ambulance Unit 1 was present to provide rehabilitation services for the firefighters.
