According to foreign media reports, on Wednesday, the IG Metall stated after the signing of the fourth round of salary negotiation agreement that the Volkswagen Group agreed to start a salary increase of 4.3% for more than 120,000 workers in Germany from May.

The German Metals Industry Union represents 3.9 million workers in the automotive industry. This month the industry is required to increase wages for workers, or else strikes will be carried out. The successful signing of an agreement with the Volkswagen Group also shows that the union has won in this "confrontation." As part of the agreement, workers in factories in western Germany will receive an additional monthly salary of 27.5% each year starting next year. The union said that if workers do not want this extra salary, they can choose to take an extra six days off.

Volkswagen management once agreed that the salary increase for workers in factories in western Germany would not exceed 2.2% within one year, but the increase was only one-third of union demand. The public’s previous decision also angered trade unions, and unions threatened to reduce mass production of cars.

In addition, labor unions are also asking the general public to improve their corporate pension plans and to increase the recruitment of new employees to respond to changes in the industry to electrification and automated driving. However, the public rejected the union’s request because they faced a fine of 10 billion euros in emissions and the cost of investment in electrified and automated driving.
