Palos Heights FD history

<

Hi everyone, This message comes from Mike Summa. He recently came across an interesting photo slideshow on the Chicago Tribune website that he wanted to share with us. The slideshow features images from the 1940s and 1950s of the Palos Heights Volunteer Fire Department. Mike mentioned that he really enjoyed browsing through these photos and thought that many of us might find them equally fascinating. Here’s what caught my eye as well: one of the earliest pictures dates back to 1943, showing men who were part of building the new fire station taking a moment to pose for a group shot. Another striking image is from 1951, where you can see North Palos Fire Chief Fred Lange inspecting the aftermath of a devastating fire at a trailer home. There's also a great shot of the actual fire station itself during that same year. In another picture from 1951, members of the Palos Heights Fire Department proudly display their shiny new fire truck. Fast forward to 1973, and we have a snapshot of volunteers getting ready with their equipment—a reminder of how dedicated they were even decades ago. And finally, there’s an evocative photograph from 1980 showing firefighters investigating the scene of a tragic blaze. These photographs offer a glimpse into the rich history of the Palos Heights Fire Department and highlight not only their role in protecting the community but also their evolution over time. It’s always inspiring to look back at such moments in history, especially when they involve those who put themselves on the line for others. Thanks to Mike for sharing this link; it truly brings back some amazing memories! Take care, [Your Name]
