Palos Heights FD history

<

Hey everyone, This message comes from Mike Summa. He recently came across an interesting photo slideshow on the Chicago Tribune's website that he wanted to share with us. It features pictures from the 1940s and 1950s of the Palos Heights Volunteer Fire Department. Mike said he really enjoyed looking through these photos and thought many of us might find them equally fascinating. Here’s what caught my eye: The first image shows some men who were part of the fire department back in 1943 taking a break to pose for a picture while they worked on building a new fire station. It’s such a cool glimpse into how things used to be! Another one from 1951 captures North Palos Fire Chief Fred Lange inspecting the aftermath of a tragic trailer home fire where three people lost their lives. It’s a poignant reminder of both the risks firefighters face and their dedication to protecting communities. There’s also a shot of the actual fire station itself from 1951, standing tall and proud. And don’t miss the photo of the crew proudly showcasing their brand-new fire truck—clearly, they’re excited about upgrading their equipment. Fast forward to 1973, and we see more members of the volunteer fire department getting ready for action, looking focused and prepared. Finally, rounding out the collection is a dramatic scene from 1980 when fire officials were investigating the cause of a serious blaze in Palos Hills, which sadly resulted in two fatalities. Mike thanked everyone for taking time to view these historic images, emphasizing how much they mean to those involved in firefighting history. If anyone has similar stories or connections to these photos, I’d love to hear them! Take care, [Your Name]
