Barrington MABAS 2nd Alarm 7-19-11
The Barrington Fire Department responded to a structure fire just before 9 PM last night at 7 Crestview Lane in Lake Barrington. Upon arrival, first responders found heavy flames in what was later identified as a vacant house under renovation. Lake Zurich Engine 2 (3214), located about two miles away, arrived shortly after units from Barrington Station 3 and immediately set up a relay pumping operation. This system was later supported by a tanker shuttle that transported water from the end of Crestview Lane at Old Barrington Road.
Barrington Engine 3612 was positioned at the front line and backed into the driveway, deploying three attack lines. The engine was supplied by Lake Zurich Engine 2, with a portable tank placed at the end of the block. Water was continuously delivered via a tanker shuttle, ensuring a steady flow for the firefighting efforts.
Seven tankers were dispatched to the scene, and the fire was brought under control within an hour. At the time, temperatures were in the low 80s with high humidity, making conditions challenging for firefighters. Several mutual aid departments from surrounding areas assisted, including Hoffman Estates, Carpentersville, Mundelein, Cary, Palatine, Palatine Rural, Long Grove, Bartlett, Wauconda, Algonquin-Lake In The Hills, and Deerfield.
Larry Shapiro, a local photographer, arrived after the fire had been extinguished and captured images of the scene and the staging area. His photos show Barrington Engine 361 drafting water from the portable tank, which was then sent down the block to Lake Zurich Engine 2. Tankers from Palatine Rural and Long Grove were waiting their turn to refill the portable tank after the Barrington tanker completed its delivery.
From the perspective of Lake Zurich Engine 2, Barrington Engine 361 could be seen at the end of the block, ready to continue the fight. Mundelein Engine 431 was parked on Old Barrington Road, with firefighters working inside the structure. Hoffman Estates Engine 23 was also on scene, with the unit stationed in a nearby area. Carpentersville Engine 942, a 2007 Pierce Dash, sat in staging several blocks away, while Cary's Squad 255 was on standby. West Dundee Fire Department sent a Pierce Saber as part of the second alarm response.
