<

On the evening of July 19, 2011, the Barrington Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 7 Crestview Lane in Lake Barrington. The call came in before 9 PM, and first-arriving units found heavy flames engulfing what would later be identified as an empty house undergoing renovation. Lake Zurich Engine 2 (3214), located about two miles away, arrived shortly after Barrington crews from Station 3. They quickly set up a relay pumping operation, which was later supported by a tanker shuttle from the end of Crestview Lane near Old Barrington Road. Barrington Engine 3612 took the lead, deploying three lines into the burning structure. Meanwhile, Lake Zurich Engine 2 provided water supply, with a portable tank placed at the end of the block. Tankers from Palatine Rural and Long Grove waited their turn to refill the portable tank, ensuring a continuous water supply for the firefighting efforts. Firefighters from multiple departments were on scene, including units from Hoffman Estates, Carpentersville, Mundelein, Cary, Palatine, Long Grove, Bartlett, Wauconda, Algonquin-Lake In The Hills, and Deerfield. A total of seven tankers were dispatched to support the operation, and the fire was brought under control in less than an hour. Temperatures that night were in the low 80s with high humidity, making conditions challenging for firefighters. Larry Shapiro, a local photographer, captured several images of the event, including shots of engines in action and crews working at the scene. His photos show Barrington Engine 361 drafting water from the portable tank, while Lake Zurich Engine 2 supplied the line. Other images highlight the coordination between departments, with mutual aid units stationed nearby. Mundelein Engine 431 was seen working inside the house, while Hoffman Estates Engine 23 and Carpentersville Engine 942 sat in staging areas several blocks away. Cary’s Squad 255 and West Dundee’s Pierce Saber also arrived on the second alarm, showing the widespread response to the incident. The Daily Herald published a brief article about the fire, highlighting the quick response and collaboration among fire departments. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of mutual aid and preparedness in emergency situations.
