Jiangxi Salt Group Co., Ltd. has recently set up a project construction office, planning to build a facility in Yushu City with an annual production capacity of 300,000 tons of soda ash and 300,000 tons of ammonium chloride. The initial investment for the project is 700 million yuan, and it is expected to be completed and operational within three years. Once fully functional, the plant will become the province’s sole large-scale producer of these two key chemical products. Yushu City is positioning this project as a flagship initiative, aiming to develop the region into the largest salt-based industrial base in Jiangxi. The city is rich in eucalyptus salt ore reserves, which have become a key driver for local economic development. As part of its strategy, Yushu has prioritized salt chemical industry projects in its investment promotion efforts this year, with eucalyptus salt chemistry recognized as a leading industry in the central region. Over the past six months, Yushu has signed several major agreements, including a 1.2 billion yuan investment with Shanghai Yilong Co., Ltd. for an annual output of 150,000 tons of ion-exchange membrane caustic soda and downstream products. It also signed a deal with Nanchang Hanyu Silicone Co., Ltd. for a 16,000-ton trichlorosilane project and a 500-ton polysilicic acid project. Additionally, a 500 million yuan investment was announced with Hong Kong Blue Hengda International Investment Co., Ltd. for the production of 50,000 tons of AC foaming agent and 50,000 tons of organic silicon products. Cheng Hongxing (Holding) International Co., Ltd. also signed a 1.2 billion yuan agreement for a 200,000-ton ion-exchange membrane caustic soda project. Furthermore, an意向 agreement on salt hot spring development was reached with the Wuzhen Old Town Protection and Tourism Development Management Committee in Zhejiang. Currently, Jiangxi Province has over 2 million tons of salt production capacity, but only 15% of that is designated as edible iodized salt under national franchise plans. The remaining 85% is used as an industrial raw material, facing intense domestic competition. To enhance value and extend the industrial chain, Jiangxi has decided to enter the salt chemical sector, incorporating salt chemical development into the key agenda of the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan." This move marks a strategic shift toward higher-value chemical production and long-term sustainable growth.
