On December 20th, Weichai Group celebrated a milestone as its sales revenue surpassed 40 billion yuan. The company also unveiled a new product lineup at an exhibition, with the "Blue Engine Powertrain System" taking center stage. Visitors gathered around the display, intrigued by the advanced technology on show. This powertrain system represents the evolution of China’s heavy-duty commercial vehicle parts industry, showcasing integrated components such as Weichai Power’s 11.6-liter WP12.375N turbocharged intercooled electronically controlled high-pressure common rail diesel engine, paired with Fast’s 12JS180T transmission and Hande MAN single-speed reduction bridge.
The system was developed through collaboration between Weichai's European R&D centers, AVL vehicle R&D centers, and other industry experts. Over six months and with a budget exceeding 20 million yuan, Weichai Power’s technical teams worked to create a highly efficient and reliable power solution. According to Wei Dehui, deputy general manager of Weichai Power and head of the Technical Center, the system has undergone rigorous testing and demonstrated exceptional performance in dynamics, economy, and reliability. It is considered one of the best powertrain solutions in the domestic automotive industry, with both technical content and quality reaching international standards.
The blue-engine 3N series 1900 rpm engine features four key technological breakthroughs: first, improved fuel efficiency. By avoiding high-fuel-consumption areas and optimizing transmission and axle ratios, the system ensures lower fuel consumption during normal operations. Second, enhanced power output, with increased torque across low and mid-speed ranges, resulting in superior acceleration and performance. Third, greater reliability, as reducing the rated power speed from 2200 rpm to 1900 rpm improves mechanical efficiency and extends maintenance intervals beyond 1.2 million kilometers. Lastly, better environmental performance, with reduced noise levels and improved emissions compared to older models.
Li Dakai, CEO of Weichai Power and Chairman of the Fast Group, emphasized the importance of internal collaboration in developing the system. Teams worked together on gear ratios, layout designs, and even noise reduction. He noted that while traditional engine manufacturers may be hesitant to share core technologies, Weichai operates as a strategic alliance, combining not only products but also capital. This cooperation leads to cost savings and more efficient development.
Tan Xuguang, chairman of Weichai Holding Group, highlighted the significance of this innovation. The Blue Engine Powertrain system has transformed Weichai from a single diesel engine supplier into a diversified commercial vehicle enterprise with a comprehensive product line. This expansion has not only strengthened Weichai’s industrial chain but also better met customer needs, delivering greater value to users and the company alike.
