The purpose of the vehicle-to-vehicle technology is to achieve active safety that prevents vehicle collisions. This technology has already had a lot of R&D in the past few years, even in a number of streets in many cities, for example, the city of Michigan has tested 3,000 cars.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the United States stated that the annual cost of resolving traffic jams is as high as $88 billion. If this technology is used, officials believe that it can prevent 80% of traffic accidents.

Previously, David Strickland, director of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the United States, had stated that he had introduced vehicle-to-vehicle communications and advanced braking systems. However, he did not disclose whether the NHTSA project will eventually force all vehicles to adopt the v2v communication function and automatic braking.

However, automakers are not too impressed with this proposal. For automakers, the deployment of these two systems will greatly increase the manufacturing cost of new cars, which in turn will make the cars harder to sell. In addition, they also believe that it should not be forced to use a certain technology within the industry. At present, NHTSA is the only system that forces car manufacturers to prevent cars from colliding with the electronic stability system. However, many car manufacturers have added v2v communication systems to their new cars.
