Plasma cutting machines produce noise, smoke, arcs, and metal vapors during the cutting process, causing pollution to the environment. There are already several different types of equipment and technologies that can be used to reduce this level of pollution. In addition to water recompression plasma arc cutting, cutting on the water surface and cutting under the water surface are also effective methods for suppressing environmental pollution.
A water tank is required for cutting on the water surface. A work table for placing a work piece in the water storage tank is composed of a plurality of arranged spire-shaped steel members. These spire-shaped steel members support the cut workpiece on a horizontal surface. When the torch is working, the plasma arc is surrounded by a curtain of water. In order to maintain a continuous water curtain, a circulating pump is required to draw the water out of the reservoir and then into the torch. When water emerges from the torch, it forms a curtain of water that surrounds the plasma arc. The water curtain greatly controls the harm to the environment caused by pollutants such as noise, fumes, arcs, and metal vapors generated during the cutting process. This method requires a flow rate of 55 to 75 L/min.
Subsurface cutting is to place the workpiece about 75mm below the water surface. The workbench on which the workpiece is placed is composed of spire-shaped steel members. The purpose of using a spire-shaped steel member is to allow the cutting table to have sufficient capacity for containing chips and slag. When the torch is launched, a steady stream of compressed air is used to displace the water around the nozzle face of the torch and then ignite the plasma arc for cutting. When cutting under the water, keep the depth of the workpiece submerged under the water surface. A system for controlling the water level shall be prepared, and a pump and a storage tank shall be added to maintain the water level by means of water injection and drainage.
