Historic fire scene photos from 4-15-89

This message comes from Jim Skrabel:

I recently started scanning some old 35mm photos of fires I've responded to over the years, and I stumbled upon these. They're a nice reminder of the past and the work we used to do.

This is the River North Art Gallery Fire that took place at 361 W. Superior Street on April 15, 1989. It was classified as a 5-11, with either one or two special units involved. I heard about it through the Aerial Tower 3 box, grabbed my camera, and headed straight to the scene. At the time, I was living in Cicero, so it took me a little while to get downtown. By the time I arrived, the fire had already escalated to a 4-11.

These photos were taken during the incident, and they give a real sense of what it was like back then. It's always interesting to look back and see how things have changed over the years.
