This is from Larry Shapiro: I witnessed a rollover incident with entrapment on Saturday afternoon, just a block from my home. I arrived before any fire crews and found a one-car crash with no actual entrapment. The vehicle was a Lexus SUV that had suffered extensive damage. One occupant was outside the car, while the other had run about a block before being stopped by police. Both were taken to the hospital— one via BLS and the other via ALS. The reason I’m sharing these photos without any fire department involvement has to do with the nature of the crash… and a thought that kept coming back to me—that it wasn’t their time. The car veered off the road, hit a utility pole first, then crashed into a metal fence post. As it rolled over, it crushed two sections of a wooden fence, and two 4x4 posts pierced the windshield—narrowly missing both occupants. The car nicked the utility pole on the left before hitting the metal fence post on the right and rolling over sideways. Larry Shapiro photo The SUV landed on its wheels after rolling. Larry Shapiro photo The driver’s wheel broke free. Larry Shapiro photo Exterior view of the windshield. Larry Shapiro photo Closeup of the posts and windshield from inside the car. Larry Shapiro photo One post pierced the dashboard before coming through the instrument cluster, missing the driver. Larry Shapiro photo A few inches in either direction could have resulted in a far more serious outcome. More images are available at shapirophotography.net. Steel pipe is not only used to transport fluids and powdery solids, exchange heat energy, manufacture machinery parts and containers, it is also an economic steel. The use of steel pipes to manufacture building structure grids, pillars and mechanical supports can reduce weight, save 20 to 40% of metal, and can achieve factory mechanized construction. The manufacture of highway Bridges with steel pipes can not only save steel, simplify construction, but also greatly reduce the area of protective coating, saving investment and maintenance costs.
