Berwyn boat fire 6-13-11
The Berwyn Fire Department responded to a fire in an alley on the 7000 block of 34th Street this evening. The incident involved a boat that was under construction and fully engulfed when firefighters arrived. Josh Boyajian, a local resident, shared his firsthand account and photos with us.
"When I stepped outside, I could see a large fire visible from several blocks away," Josh said. "Berwyn fire companies arrived on scene to find a boat fully involved, burning intensely. They used two lines to tackle the fire. North Riverside provided auto-aid support."
Josh added, "The boat was already well into the fire before crews could get water on it. Firefighters worked quickly to bring the flames under control, and by the time the second line was charged, the fire was mostly knocked down."
He also shared a series of images capturing different stages of the incident. One photo shows a massive header visible from the street, while another highlights the boat on a mobile trailer in the backyard of the house. Additional shots show firefighters actively working on the fire, with one line positioned on the street and another from Berwyn Engine 903. Berwyn Quint 901 was also seen on the scene, assisting with the operation.
These images provide a clear look at how quickly the fire spread and how swiftly the department responded. While no injuries have been reported, the situation serves as a reminder of the importance of emergency preparedness and quick response times.
