Crimson unit in progress

<

Crimson Fire Apparatus is one of several manufacturers that offer real-time updates on the production of fire apparatus, allowing customers and enthusiasts to track the progress of specific units. Their website currently shows that there are ongoing builds in both Naperville and Chicago, with photos available for public viewing. For those interested in the latest updates, you can check the status of the new Naperville engine—set to replace the last Freightliner in service for Engine 4—on a Spartan Gladiator chassis with a 1500/750 configuration. You can view the progress here. Additionally, there's a new engine being built for Chicago, also on a Spartan Gladiator chassis, but with a 1500/500 setup. This unit is also under construction and you can check its current status here. Another notable project is the first 103-foot rear-mount aerial for Chicago, which is also being built on a Spartan Gladiator chassis. This unit has a 103′ RM 0/0 configuration and is expected to be one of the most advanced units in the city’s fleet. You can see where it stands in the build process here. As a side note, it seems that Crimson Fire will need to work quickly to have at least one of these new aerials ready for display at the International Fire Chief’s Show in Chicago this August (FRI). With the event approaching, the timeline is tight, and it remains to be seen whether they’ll meet the deadline. If you haven’t seen the original press release from March 2010 regarding the Chicago aerials, here’s a quick recap: Crimson Fire signed a three-year contract with the city of Chicago to build over 30 custom aerial fire trucks. The company began designing and building five 103-foot rear-mount aerials, with the potential for up to 30 units over the life of the contract. Equipment Management Co., the local dealer, secured the contract and will handle sales and service. Jim Salmi, president of Crimson Fire Aerials, emphasized how the design of these units addresses the unique challenges of urban environments, such as height restrictions and maneuverability through older neighborhoods. The aerials feature a low-profile design, an aluminum body, and a patented roller assembly system that eliminates the need for grease. They also include X-style outriggers and a ladder lift cradle for improved performance. These features make them some of the most advanced and durable units on the market. Crimson Fire, a subsidiary of Spartan Motors, has a long history of producing high-quality fire apparatus and is known for innovation and reliability. Their facilities in Pennsylvania and South Dakota continue to deliver cutting-edge equipment tailored to the needs of firefighters across the country.
