Crimson unit in progress
Crimson Fire Apparatus is one of several manufacturers that provide real-time updates on the production of fire apparatus, allowing customers and enthusiasts to track the progress of specific units. Their official website currently lists ongoing production in Naperville and Chicago, with photos available for viewing.

As a side note, it looks like Crimson Fire will need to work quickly to get at least one of the new Chicago aerials ready for display at the International Fire Chief’s Show in Chicago this August. That event is a major opportunity for manufacturers to showcase their latest innovations, so meeting the deadline could be critical.
For those who haven’t seen the original press release from March 2010 regarding the Chicago aerial contracts, here's a quick summary:
On March 31, 2010, Crimson Fire, Inc. announced a three-year agreement with the city of Chicago to build over 30 custom aerial fire trucks. The company had already begun designing and building five 103-foot rear-mount aerials for the city. Chicago, which also has a separate contract with Crimson for pumpers, could potentially order up to 30 aerial units during the term of the deal.
The contract was secured by Equipment Management Co., the Illinois-based dealer for Crimson Fire, which also operates in Arizona. EMC joined the Crimson Fire family in July 2009.
Jim Salmi, president of Crimson Fire Aerials, expressed excitement about the partnership, noting that Chicago faces unique challenges due to height restrictions and older urban infrastructure. He emphasized that the Crimson Fire aerials are designed for better maneuverability and durability.
The 103-foot rear-mount aerials are built on a Spartan Gladiator cab and chassis, featuring a low-profile design with an overall travel height of just 11 feet. The aluminum body and tubular construction make them among the strongest and most reliable in the industry.
These units also include innovative features such as a "greaseless" ladder system, X-style outriggers, and a ladder lift cradle that improves operational range.
Crimson Fire, a subsidiary of Spartan Motors, Inc., has been a leader in custom fire truck manufacturing for over 130 years. They produce a full line of pumpers, rescues, aerials, and other emergency vehicles from facilities in Pennsylvania and South Dakota.
