In July 2006, during the energy-saving and frequency conversion promotion meeting for converter dust removal fans organized by Kunming Steel from July 13 to 16, valuable insights were shared about the performance of high-voltage inverters. The motor systems operated stably, safely, and reliably, with easy maintenance and reduced noise levels. Most importantly, they enabled a real soft start, significantly improving operational efficiency. At the event, a representative from Kunming Steel highlighted the successful application of high-voltage inverters developed by Dongfang Hitachi (Chengdu) Electronic Control Equipment Co., Ltd., replacing traditional hydraulic couplings in the converter dust removal fan system. This upgrade not only delivered impressive energy savings but also served as a great inspiration for other industry participants looking to improve their own energy efficiency strategies. Since 2003, Kunming Steel’s No. 2 and No. 3 Steelmaking Plants have implemented 9 high-voltage inverters from the same company, replacing the original fluid couplings. These systems have not only achieved significant power savings but also brought tangible economic benefits, allowing the company to recoup its investment within 2 to 3 years. Today, Dongfang Hitachi (Chengdu) Electronic Control Equipment Co., Ltd. has secured over 60 supply contracts for high-voltage, high-power inverters (6KV, 10KV) with major steel enterprises, including Kunming Steel, Chenggang, Panzhihua Iron and Steel, Handan Iron and Steel, and Maanshan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. The meeting emphasized that high-voltage and high-power motors are key areas for energy conservation. High-voltage inverters are considered the primary solution for enhancing energy efficiency in such systems. These products can be widely applied in various industries, including steel production, wind turbines, pumps, and winches, offering substantial energy-saving potential. It is hoped that this advanced power-saving technology will gain more attention and be adopted by steel companies across the industry, driving further improvements in energy management and sustainability.
