Skokie responds to man trapped under a car

On August 30, 2011, at around 3:00 PM, Jeff Rudolph captured a series of images from an incident in Skokie that involved a man trapped under a vehicle. The event unfolded on the 7700 block of Kilbourn Street after a call came in reporting a child stuck beneath a car. However, upon arrival, emergency responders discovered it was not a child, but an intoxicated adult male who had jacked up one side of his vehicle and gotten himself wedged under the exhaust system while attempting repairs. His friend, also slightly under the influence, tried to assist but ended up complicating the situation. Skokie Fire Department dispatched a full extrication team, including two engines, a ladder truck, a rescue squad, an ambulance, and a battalion chief. When Squad 18 arrived, they secured the vehicle with wheel chocks and used airbags to lift the car off the man. After being freed, the individual suffered only minor abrasions and declined medical transport. Despite the mishap, he still needed to have his exhaust fixed. Jeff Rudolph documented the scene with several photos, showing firefighters in action as they worked to free the man. One image captures the moment the vehicle was lifted using airbags, while another shows the man emerging unscathed. Additional shots highlight the fire department’s equipment, including Tower Ladder 16 and Battalion 16, which were part of the response team. These pictures provide a detailed look at the real-time efforts of the first responders. You can view more of Jeff's photos here.
