CFD Apparatus History – Ward LaFrance

<

To continue our in-depth look at the Ward LaFrance apparatus used by the Chicago Fire Department, we’re excited to share additional historical materials submitted by Bill Friedrich. These include original 1970 sell sheets and brochures showcasing the fire trucks and equipment that were once part of the CFD fleet. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out our previous posts on this topic [HERE](#), [HERE](#), [HERE](#), and [HERE](#). In this post, we feature a few key pages from the 1970 brochure, offering a glimpse into the impressive capabilities of the Ward LaFrance units. The first image highlights all seven 2,000-GPM engines in service with the City of Chicago during that time. It’s fascinating to see how these machines were designed and operated back then. Another page provides a detailed view of one of the 2,000-GPM engines, including full specifications and technical details. This kind of documentation is invaluable for historians and enthusiasts alike, helping to preserve the legacy of these iconic fire apparatus. Finally, we have a look at the 1970 Ward LaFrance/Grove 100' ladder truck, which was equipped with a 300-gallon booster tank, a Hale 2CBP pump, and a Grove 4S-100 ladder. These trucks were built to handle a wide range of emergency situations, and their design reflected the needs of the time. These materials offer a unique window into the past and are a great resource for anyone interested in the history of firefighting equipment. Thanks again to Bill Friedrich for sharing these rare documents with us.
