Here's a report from Eric Haak on this morning’s 2-11 alarm at 6427 S. Cottage Grove in Chicago: Just before 4:43 AM, Engine 47 and Truck 30 arrived to find flames coming from the first floor of a three-story, 75x100 mixed-use building. Within two minutes, Battalion 17 requested the Still & Box and reported that the stairway to the upper floors had been damaged. Firefighters had to access the second and third floors using ground ladders. At 4:50 AM, Battalion 17 called for the 2-11 alarm as fire broke through the roof, threatening the rear porches. The situation was brought under control shortly after, and the 2-11 alarm was canceled at 5:18 AM. Engine 63 in front of the fire building. Several engines and trucks responded, including Engine 47 and Truck 30, who were the first on the scene. Photos show the extent of the fire and the efforts taken to control it.
